Vitamin C

T J Clark’s catalyzed vitamin C is a pure form of ascorbic acid with the addition of a proprietary blend of mineral compounds.  The addition of these mineral compounds may promote a greater production of ascorbate lactone derivatives, providing greater tissue availability and higher retention of ascorbate than other vitamin C products.  The use of these mineral compounds also serves to replace valuable electrolytes including, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium.

Each 8ml contains
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid)
Phytogenic Mineral Catalyst
(Containing but not limited to B, Ca, Cr, Co, Cu, I, Fe, Li, Mg, Mn, Mo, P, K, Se, Si, Sr, V, Zn)
250mg
100mcg

Inactive Ingredients:
Purified water, natural cane sugar, natural flavors, potassium sorbate (0.1%).

Pharmacology and Research of Active Ingredients:
  • Vitamin C is arguably the most important water-soluble biological antioxidant. It can scavenge both reactive oxygen species and reactive nitrogen species.  Ascorbate is an excellent reducing agent, and it acts as a cofactor in various biochemical reactions to reduce the transition metals, iron and copper. The major deficiency syndrome of vitamin C is scurvy. Symptoms of scurvy include inflamed and bleeding gums, petechiae, ecchymosis, follicular hyperkeratosis, coiled hairs, perifollicular haemorrhages, impaired wound healing, dry eyes and mouth (Sjögren's syndrome), arthralgia, joint effusions, muscle weakness, myalgia, fatigue, depression, frequent infections, anaemia, anorexia, diarrhoea, and pulmonary and kidney problems that can lead to coma and death. All systems of the body are affected by scurvy.
  • Ascorbic acid is also involved in the biosynthesis of other connective-tissue components, including elastin, fibronectin, proteoglycans, bone matrix and elastin-associated fibrillin. It also appears to play a role in collagen gene expression and cellular procollagen secretion.  Vitamin C influences the concentration of the cyclic nucleotides c-AMP and c-GMP, is involved in hormone production (adrenalin and serotonin), and required for the detoxification of toxic chemicals. While marginal vitamin C depletion leads to a reduction in the activity of HMG reductase, a rate-limiting step in cholesterol metabolism leading to an increase in serum cholesterol.
  • Ascorbic acid is involved in modulating iron absorption, transport and storage. It aids in the intestinal absorption of iron by reducing ferric iron to ferrous iron and may stimulate ferritin synthesis to promote iron storage in cells. It is involved in the biosynthesis of corticosteroids, adolsterone, and the conversion of cholesterol to bile acids and functions as a reducing agent for mixed-function oxidases.
  • Ascorbic acid is best known for its antioxidant properties and its possible role in the prevention of certain chronic degenerative disorders, such as coronary heart disease and cancer. In fact, ascorbic acid may be the most important water-soluble antioxidant in the body. Vitamin C may also inhibit the transformation of the influenza virus.
  • Phytogenic Mineral Catalyst – Our Polyfloramin™extracts contain up to 72 trace elements for enhanced bioavailability, assimilation and synergy of the active ingredients contained in Vitamin C.
The use of mineral compounds also serves to replace valuable electrolytes including, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium.

Clinical Applications:
T J Clark’s Vitamin C may be beneficial in the prevention and treatment of;
  • Stress related conditions, including irritability, anxiety, nervousness, headaches and fatigue.
  • Ageing, allergies, arteriosclerosis, arthritis, cataracts, circulatory complaints, colds and flu, and excessive use of anti-inflammatory steroid drugs.
  • Excessive intakes of polyunsaturated fats, sun exposure, heart disease, infections and immune dysfunctions, and combating the effects of pollution, smog, smoking.
  • Vitamin C may also decrease poor resistance to infections; reduce adriamycin cardio toxicology, and thrush.
Precautions:
  • Although oxalic acid is formed when ascorbic acid is metabolized, this is highly unlikely to cause renal problems in healthy individuals without pre-existing renal problems or who are not predisposed to increased crystal aggregation. Those with pre-existing kidney stone disease or a history of renal insufficiency, defined as serum creatine greater than 2 and/or creatinine clearance less than 30, should exercise caution in the use of higher than RDA amounts of vitamin C.
  • Ascorbic acid is involved in modulating iron absorption and transport. It is highly unlikely that healthy individuals who take supplemental vitamin C will have any problem with iron overload. However, those with hemochromatosis, thalassemia, sideroblastic anaemia, sickle cell anaemia and erythrocyte G6PD deficiency might have such a problem if they use large amounts of vitamin C.
Drug Interactions:
  • Aluminium-containing antacids: The intake of large doses of vitamin C used at the same time as aluminium-containing antacids has been reported to increase urinary aluminium excretion, suggesting increased aluminium absorption from these antacids. However, this is not well documented.
  • Aspirin: Chronic use of high dose aspirin may lead to impaired vitamin C status.
  • Chemotherapeutic agents: Vitamin C may potentiate the anti-neoplastic activity of cisplatin, doxorubicin and paclitaxel. It may also help ameliorate the cardio toxic effect of doxorubicin and the nephrotoxic effect of cisplatin. This is based on in vitro and animal studies. There is a concern by some researchers that supplemental doses of vitamin C may diminish the efficacy of some chemotherapeutic agents.
  • Estrogen: Ascorbic acid may enhance 17 beta-estradiol inhibition of oxidized LDL formation.

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble B vitamin. B12 is also known as cobalamin because it contains cobalt. The form of B12 most commonly used in dietary supplements is called cyanocobalamin. B12 is only produced by bacteria, so it is only found in food products of animal origin and in some fermented vegetable products such as tempeh and miso (fermented soybeans)
