Hi, You're receiving this email because {name} thinks the Branched Chain Amino Acids would interest you.

The branched-chain amino acids (BCAA’s) comprise the three essential amino acids L-leucine, L-isoleucine and L-valine. These amino acids are found in proteins of all life forms. Branched-chain amino acids are sometimes used in enteral and parenteral feedings in the management of hepatic encephalopathy. They are also occasionally used enterally and parenterally in the management of extensive burns and other severe trauma conditions because of their possible anticatabolic action in these conditions.

Pharmacology and Research of Active Ingredients:
  • The BCAA’s are distributed to the various tissues of the body via the systemic circulation. The BCAA’s appear to be preferentially taken up by skeletal muscle, where they undergo catabolic reactions. Skeletal muscle appears to be the major site of both BCAA transamination and oxidation in humans. BCAA’s are also taken up by other organs, particularly the brain and kidney, where they also undergo oxidation.
  • Although amino acids are not considered important energy sources, BCAA’s serve as important fuel sources for skeletal muscle during periods of metabolic stress. Under such conditions, BCAA’s may promote protein synthesis, suppress protein catabolism and serve as substrates for gluconeogenesis. BCAA’s are mainly catabolised in skeletal muscle, stimulating the production of, among other substances, L-alanine and L-glutamine.
  • L-Leucine is a component of elastin and protein hormones.  Leucine lowers brains levels of serotonin and dopamine, promotes wound healing, reduces appetite, regulates muscle protein synthesis and stimulates insulin release.
  • L-Valine is an essential amino acid in humans and has been used to decrease the muscle wasting seen in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a disease affecting the nerves of the spinal cord.  Valine assists in recovery from sports and may decrease protein breakdown during heavy exercise.
  • L-Isoleucine is an energy producing substance, and an important constituent of TPN solutions used to prevent muscle wasting in cancer patients and others who have undergone major surgery.  Isoleucine has been used in patients with liver failure and to treat hepatic encephalopathy.
  • Phytogenic Mineral Catalyst – Our Polyfloramin™extracts contain up to 72 trace elements for enhanced bioavailability, assimilation and synergy of the active ingredients contained in our Catalyzed Branched Chain Amino Acid formula.
Clinical Applications:

T J Clark’s Branched Chain Amino Acid formula may be beneficial in the prevention and treatment of:

  • Alcohol abuse, anorexia nervosa, athletes.
  • Heavy exercise, hepatic failure, hyper catabolic states.
  • Low birth weights in infants, renal failure, stress, surgery and uraemia.
Precautions:
  • Branched-chain amino acids are contraindicated in those with the rare inborn errors of metabolism maple syrup urine disease and isovaleric acidemia. BCAA’s are also contraindicated in those with hypersensitivity to any component of a BCAA-containing supplement.
