Copper

Copper is an essential trace mineral in animal and human nutrition.  In addition to possible anaemia, neutropenia and osteoporosis, manifestations of mild copper deficiency may include abnormal glucose tolerance, hypercholesterolemia, arthritis, myocardial disease, arterial disease, cardiac arrhythmias, loss of pigmentation and neurological problems. T J Clark’s Catalyzed Copper contains a highly bioavailable colloidal form of copper. Catalysed copper is flavoured with fructose for greater patient compliance. Our phytogenic mineral catalyst is included for maximum nutrient utilisation.

Each 5ml contains
Elemental Copper (as colloidal gluconate)
Phytogenic Mineral Catalyst

Inactive Ingredients:
Purified water, Organic Vanilla Flavor, Natural Cane Sugar, Potassium Sorbate (0.1%)

Pharmacology of Active Ingredients:
  • Copper deficiency has been found to increase the susceptibility of lipoproteins to peroxidation in rats and to increase oxidative DNA damage in lymphocytes in culture. Supplemental copper was found to prevent oxidative DNA damage in lymphocytes in culture. Copper supplementation in middle-aged volunteers was found to protect red blood cells against oxidation. Copper is a cofactor for copper/zinc superoxide dismutase and ceruloplasmin, two important antioxidant enzymes, and the possible antioxidant activity of copper may be accounted for, at least in part, by its role in these enzymes.
  • Copper facilitates cellular oxidation, catecholamine synthesis, elastin and collagen synthesis, maintains skin, bone, and nerve function, melanin and myelin synthesis and regulates iron metabolism.
  • There is no doubt that copper deficiency can contribute to cardiovascular disease. Copper deficiency contributes to cardiovascular disease and aneurisms through a deficiency in the copper dependent enzyme Lysol oxidase. It seems likely that supplemental copper might be helpful in preventing and treating cardiovascular disease even in those with marginal copper deficiency. This hypothesis needs further investigation. Animal studies have shown that copper deficiency increases the susceptibility of lipoproteins and tissues to peroxidation. There are also indications that copper deficiency may play a role in hypertension, in weakening of the structural integrity of the heart and blood vessels and in reduced ability of the heart to contract, among other negative effects.
  • Similarly, copper appears to play some important roles in immunity, and supplemental copper might thus be beneficial in even those with slight or marginal copper deficiency. Copper deficiency has been shown to increase vulnerability to and mortality from infection in some animal studies.
  • Phytogenic Mineral Catalyst – Our Polyfloramin™extracts contain up to 72 trace elements for enhanced bioavailability, assimilation and synergy of the active ingredients contained in our Copper formula.
Clinical Applications:

T J Clark’s Copper formula may be beneficial in the prevention and treatment of;

  • Aneurism, back pain, baldness, bleeding gums, cholesterolemia, emphysema, cardiovascular lesions, decreased dopamine and adrenaline levels in the brain, decreased longevity and decreased white cell count.
  • Depression, fragile bones, greying hair, hypochromic anaemia, osteo-arthritis, pregnancy, stroke, varicose veins, infertility, and seizures.
Precautions:
  • Supplemental copper is contraindicated in those with Wilson's disease (hepatolenticular degeneration), a disease of abnormal copper accumulation.
  • Those with chronic liver failure and chronic renal failure should exercise extreme caution in the use of.

Iron

Iron (Fe) is an essential trace mineral in humans. It is involved in the entire process of breathing, including oxygen transport and electron transport. Iron-deficiency, which can lead to anemia, is the most common nutritional disorder in the world.
